Terry A Hearn - Changing mindset for a new prosperity

One of the main draws to working in my current role is the forward thinking mentality of the CEO Terry. His understanding of the environment and how we can influence change moving forward is exemplary, and he continues to look at new technologies and ways we can improve current environmental practices and future developments in the sector. When I first learned of Terry and his work in previous roles I was interested to find out more on his thoughts on how blockchain technologies could be implemented in the organisation. Unfortunately I have no yet had the chance in person to speak with him, I do however hope to speak with him soon. Currently with COVID 19 and cyber security issues with SEPA, his time has been very strained and can only imagine the amount of pressure he is under.

However he did a TED talk I have linked below gives a good understanding of where we stand today with humans and the environment on a macro scale. I believe this TED is still very relevant today especially with changing the mindsets of our leaders and public bodies to gain a better understanding of blockchain technologies and their use cases within their relevant sectors. Terry talks of how improving environmental standards within an organisation in turn has many positive gains. The applications of blockchain technology in the environment sector are massive and abundant. We are however at the very start of a blockchain revolution and the key factor we must focus on at the moment is education on what blockchain technology is and how it can be applied. Once basic awareness and understanding of what is happening takes place, we will be in a position to apply these technologies in real world processes and see the vast improvements that can be made through basic education on the subject.

As always, I try to think positively about humans and their interaction with our planet, it is hard when it is being so readily exploited. It is people like Terry who are out there pushing the young and active environmentalists to better their communities, and at current there is a need to take these principles around blockchain technology and educated the larger audience within the environment sector. I hope into the future we will see more from our regulatory bodies and environmental agencies across the world do more to help educate blockchain technology throughout the environment sector. These organisations can really help push and influence change on the technology to help understand that blockchain technology and decentralization have huge positive applications moving forward.
