Crypto Climate Accord - Blockchain Inspiration

The fast paced environment of blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies has lead to a situation where at present, people are often lead to believe that this movement is harmful to the environment. Bitcoin mining is a prime example where the media are looking directly at what is currently bad with the technology and not the future implications and possibilities are from it. Although I agree that there is more to be done to improve blockchains to make them more sustainable in the long term, we are just at the beginning of major changes to society. We have endless opportunities to improve on current blockchain systems and create more sustainable blockchains into the future.

After the Paris Climate Agreement was adopted in 2015/2016 to help counteract climate change on an international scale, it was a clear statement by members to make a commitment to reducing global rising temperatures and carbon emissions. This was a huge statement to the world citizens that there is an issues that we need to tackle and a happy moment for environmentalist across the globe. Since 2015 a lot has changed as you well know and blockchain technology is much further down the line into adoption. Although a lot of the chat around the technology is focused on money making there are a huge amount of blockchains being built for different purposes. When building these blockchains it is key that we try to make them as sustainable as possible moving forward, and improve sustainability to blockchains which are already adopted. Luckily a system is already in place to help the above issue, and in turn hopefully provide evidence that the crypto industries can and are doing huge amounts to improve sustainability in the sector.

The Crypto Climate Accord is a great example of forward thinking individuals looking to improve systems and society for the better, and to conserve our planet. below is a link to their website and what they do and represent. At the time of writing this they are almost at 150 supporters, some of which are really forward thinking bodies.

I am a huge believer in blockchain technology and what it can do moving forward from an environmental standpoint so when i first stumbled upon them last year I felt inspired to get involved in the community.
